Runamuk Acres is a certified bee-friendly conservation farm located at the foot of the Bigelow Mountain Range in western Maine, independently owned and operated by female farmer, Samantha M. Burns. Runamuk produces vegetables, bee-friendly seedlings, fresh eggs, raw honey, beeswax products, and baked goods including fresh breads from our licensed and insured farm-kitchen. With the recent addition of a small flock of Finnsheep to the farm, lamb will also be available in limited quantities within the next few years. All of Runamuk’s products are sold direct from the farm to local patrons in the Madison-Anson, and Kingfield-New Portland areas, supporting our local community first and foremost.

As a conservation farm, Runamuk employs methods of regenerative agriculture that facilitates the growth of local populations of beneficial insects, pollinators, and soil microbial life. We believe that our entire community benefits from a healthy farm ecosystem, and we know that a healthy farm ecosystem comes from the ground up─beginning with our soil and the smallest creatures in the food chain.

Guests to the farm are invited to tour the pollinator demonstration gardens or take a walk through the forest to the farm’s wetland conservation area. Enjoy birdwatching or bugwatching, spend time with our super-friendly sheep and chickens, observe the honeybees coming and going from the apiary, or simply enjoy the view of Mt Abram while you picnic.

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day and our farm steward knows that a great breakfast can set the tone for a great day. Samantha cooks from scratch, using fresh ingredients that have either been produced on this farm, or sourced from other local farmers. She offers a nice menu that includes Runamuk’s own eggs and homefries, fluffy blueberry pancakes, and belgian waffles with freshly whipped cream.

For families, children are invited to help with livestock chores which happen daily at roughly 8am and 3pm: feeding the chickens and sheep, and collecting eggs. Kids love the broad open space where they can run and play, and even adults enjoy our rugged swingset. The farm’s backyard firepit and a screened hut where guests can sit back and relax at sunset with a cold beverage make a pleasant ending to any day.

Those looking to experience farm-life in earnest may volunteer to help with farm chores or shadow our farmer for a day. If there is a particular skill you’ve always wanted to learn, Samantha, our farm steward, is always happy to share the knowledge and experience she has gained along her journey into farming.
