Gearing up for the celebration of the Winter Solstice at Runamuk

As it is for many families, the holiday season is a fun time here at Runamuk.  While we don’t celebrate Christmas (check out this post here for more info on that!) we still do many of the same holiday traditions that most families enjoy at this time of the year. We’ve been busy attending the local holiday parade to see Santa come to town on a firetruck, decorating and putting up the tree, and making cookies for the Richards’ Family Annual Cookie Swap, which has been on-going for nearly thirty years!

Yesterday I made gingerbread so that the kids could put these houses together.

Summer with his Gingerbread House.  FYI–the little brown chocolate covered raisins are supposed to represent a trail of reindeer poops.

Winter decorated his gingerbread house with a “string of lights” which, he says “are represented by the series of red-hot candies running along the edges of the roof”.

In just a few days Santa will be making his “early run” for the children of the world who observe the solstice, and I’ve still got so much to do!

Happy Holidays from all of us here at Runamuk Acres!
