This week I finally walked the back corner of my conservation acreage for the first time this season—calf-deep in snow in the wrong shoes, of course—and put up a trail cam I’ve been meaning to install since I bought this property in 2018. Eight years of wondering what crosses that creek at night, and now I get to find out.
Also in this update: the garden fence project is underway (t-posts and extenders up, nut driver finally acquired), the first round of snap peas is in the ground, I’m peeling back black plastic to reclaim beds that got away from me, the first bluebird of the season showed up right on cue, and I baked six loaves of multigrain bread to stash in the freezer before planting season swallows me whole.
And toward the end—some honest thoughts on why I’ve mostly avoided video until now, and why I’m done trying to make this life look pretty for the camera.
Press play to hear it read aloud, messy bits and all.
