Maine beekeepers converge on Portland
I was downright giddy as I left the house just as the sun was coming up Saturday morning. The only vehicles on the road seemed to belong to men dressed in hunter orange, and I imagine that my excitement at going to my first-ever beekeeper’s conference surpassed their’s at a prospective day of hunting. It…
MSBA Annual Conference
Today’s the day! I’ll be on the road in an hour–to spend all day listening to people talk about bees and beekeeping!
Making the connection: Honeybees and you
Today I’m off to Reddington Memorial Home in Skowhegan to talk to the elderly folks there about bees and beekeeping. It’s safe to say that this is one of my favorite aspects of being president of the Somerset Beekeepers. People are naturally curious about beekeeping, it seems to hold some mystique and allure. While not all impacts of GM-foods have been fully researched, specific aspects of how the altered foods may be affecting our bodies have been…
How to make your own granola cereal
Cereal is getting to be quite expensive at the grocery store, and if you take a look at the list of ingredients you you might find yourself wondering at the necessity of it all. I mean–what is tripotassium phosphate anyway? I looked it up–tripotassium phosphate is an emulsifier or foaming agent used in food processing….
Hanging on to the dream
For some, town life is fine; living close to others is not a problem, even welcome in some cases. Many folks have no trouble buying their groceries at the local supermarket, or paying others to do for them what they could certainly do with some effort and sweat. But for others, the desire to own…
